Today Matt Kemp joined a very exclusive club. Only 3 other players in the majors have ever hit a ball competely OUT of Dodger Stadium. The great Willie Stargell (twice), Mark McGwire, and Mike Piazza.
In the 2nd inning, Matt CRUSHED a fast ball to deep left field, and it carried up and OVER the back bullpen wall, landing on the concrete just inside the field level gate !! UNBELIEVABLE! I have only scene that once in person, and that was a shot from Brandon Phillips of the Reds during batting practice a few years ago.
Matt Kemp= The Real Deal
On the other side of the coin, Charlie Haeger AGAIN came through with a
quality start, limiting the Cub’s to 3 hits over 7 innings, and lowered
his era to a minuscule 1.93 !!!. Can this kid be any more clutch, when
the Dodgers really need it? I don’t think so.
Charlie Haeger=The Real Deal
While Rockies and Giants continue to beat up on each other, the Blue
have strung together 3 straight, and look to break out the brooms tomorrow with Bills matching up against Dempster.
I will leave you with this interesting tid bit I found, courtesy of
Ken Gurnick of MLB
“In games started by pitchers other than Chad Billingsley, Clayton
Kershaw, Randy Wolf or Hiroki Kuroda, the Dodgers are 20-12. That’s a
.625 winning percentage, a better result than when the top four start.
In addition to Haeger, the fifth starters have been Eric Stults, Jeff
Weaver, James McDonald, Eric Milton and Jason Schmidt”
Things that make ya go hmmmmmmmmm.
Baseball is a one crazy game.
