2008 Opening day was a game I will never forget. I have been to 18 straight opening days, but this one was different. So, so different.
To see all the 1960’s Dodger greats slowly walk out onto the field, one by one, to the music from Field of Dreams……WOW….. And to see the look on my 72-year-old Dad’s face, was something I will never forget. He knew them all. These were the boys of summer HE grew up with. The players who filled his stories, that he told when I was young. The over the shoulder basket catches, the perfect games, the 9th inning heroics.
Duke Snyder, Wally Moon, Maury Wills, Tommy Davis, Ron Fairly, Roger Craig….Even Don Newcombe, Carl Erskine and YES, Sandy Kofax!!…..Unbelievable. And my dad new them all.
Many of the Dodger greats of the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s came out as well, of course.
But it was the “old timers” that I will never forget.
And the smile on my Dad’s face.
