2008 Opening Day

Sandy Koufax

2008 Opening day was a game I will never forget. I have been to 18 straight opening days, but this one was different. So, so different.

To see all the 1960’s  Dodger greats slowly walk out onto the field, one by one, to the music from Field of Dreams……WOW….. And to see the look on my 72-year-old Dad’s face, was something I will never forget. He knew them all. These were the boys of summer HE grew up with. The players who filled his stories, that he told when I was young. The over the shoulder basket catches, the perfect games, the 9th inning heroics.

Duke Snyder, Wally Moon, Maury Wills, Tommy Davis, Ron Fairly, Roger Craig….Even Don Newcombe, Carl Erskine and YES, Sandy Kofax!!…..Unbelievable. And my dad new them all.

Many of the Dodger greats of the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s came out as well, of course.

But it was the “old timers” that I will never forget.

And the smile on my Dad’s face.

    BCF,
that was an incredible Opening Day! Seeing the Boys of Summer coming out from the bullpens, dougout and center field, it was incredible. I cried when I saw Duke Snider walking slowly from center field. I will always remember that day.
    .
And I know I have seen you at Dodger Stadium!

Emma? Were you at PNC Park last year? You look familiar. Or maybe one of the Dodgers WIN events?
